In February, Purrfect Companions lost a special friend, kitty foster mother, and founder of our website. We pay public tribute to her many contributions to Purrfect Companions and the cause of animal rescue. Hugs to you, Heather.

" A Rose Among The Thorns"
February 21, 2006

Heather was friends with quite a few people. Only now, after experiencing the tremendous outpouring of thoughts and sentiments both before and after her memorial service, am I beginning to comprehend exactly how wide and how
much her influence, her friendship, her kindness and love extended. I am incredibly blessed and thankful that I got to experience her joy for as brief a time as I did. And not to be boastful at all, but I am equally proud that I helped in giving her the opportunities that I gave her for her to share herself with others.

Heather never quite understood the reason why some people choose who to
befriend, or that you needed a reason. Or that you could be too much of a
friend. Four legged or two legged, or in the case of some of her pets that
now swim lazily in our bedroom tank, two or four finned, it made no
difference to her...ever.

Heather had a problem with going to Church, sometimes I just think it  was
too much for her. After the passing of her stillborn granddaughter, and the
namesake of my mother, Evelyn Grace, it was painful for quite some time for
her to even think of going, yet return she did. And in many ways, she "got
the point" far better than people I see in the pews every week.

Heather would give you her last dime, even if it meant going without, she
was just that kind of person, generous almost to the point of leaving
herself in danger. Her heart was there even if her pocketbook wasn't always.

I have missed her, will miss her, and even if I go on another journey at
some point, part of me always will miss her. But I must also confess, that
she would be the first in line to smack me in the head for being too dark
and maudlin, so  I will go on, as should we all.

I will close by paraphrasing a remark that was made at her service. In
everyone's life that she touched, in all of our "quilts of life", there will
now and always and forever be that little piece of her "quilt of life" that
she chose to share.
